Short description:
Vriesea hybride belongs to the bromeliad family. It is a popular choice for terrariums because it has an exotic and attractive appearance and is relatively easy to care for. If you want to keep Vriesea hybride in your terrarium, however, there are a few things you should keep in mind.
First, they need plenty of light, but avoid spotlights, which could burn them. It’s best to place them in a well-lit area of the terrarium near the terrarium lamp. The ideal temperature for Vriesea hybride is between 18 and 28 °C. Do not place them directly near heaters, as this could cause dry air and damage the plant.
To keep the plants healthy, they need a high humidity of about 70-85%. You can spray them by hand or use a sprinkler system to increase the humidity in the terrarium. As for the soil, Vriesea hybrids prefer a well-drained mixture of peat, perlite and bark mulch.
But the best thing you can do is tie them to a piece of wood or stone. As epiphytes, Vriesea species grow on trees and use them for support instead of growing into the ground. They get their nutrients from the air and rainwater that runs off the trees. They have aerial roots that help them cling to the bark, but they are not parasites and do not harm the host.
As lithophytes, they grow on rocks and use them as substrate. They can also grow in soil or moss that grows on rocks. In nature there are many different species of Vriesea plants, and each species has its own specific growing conditions and requirements for moisture and light.
