Phidippus regius “dos Gardenas” is a local form from Cuba. The females of Phidippus regius “dos Gardenas” are darkly coloured and have red or orange spots on their bodies. The chelicerae (jaw claws) are also red in colour and stand out clearly. These features contribute to the striking and vivid appearance of this spider species. In contrast to the strikingly coloured females, the males of Phidippus regius “dos Gardenas” are black and white in colour and more inconspicuous. They have black bodies and white markings on the legs. The chelicerae of the males are green in colour. Although the males do not look as striking as the females, they still have an interesting and unique appearance.

Like most jumping spiders, Phidippus regius “dos Gardenas” is a diurnal species that actively observes its prey with its sharp gaze. When the spider has spotted its prey, it sneaks up on it and then pounces on the food animal. When jumping, jumping spiders spin a series of threads for safety reasons, to ensure that in case of a false jump they are caught by a safety line before they fall.

Phidippus regius “dos Gardenas” have keen eyesight and are always on the lookout for prey and predators. They are very alert and observe their surroundings extensively.
