Alienostreptus bicoloripes

Alienostreptus bicoloripes is a new large millipede species from the subfamily Rhynchoproctinae with striking bicolored red-yellow legs contrasting with a black body.

 

This species comes from the Kon Chu Rang nature reserve. They are encountered there both during the day and at night. The areas they inhabit are very sodden, and after frequent rains the water table rises and covers most of the habitat. Juveniles live a very inconspicuous and hidden life. Adults are distributed over a wide range of habitats, from valley bottoms to dry ridges with coniferous forest, which is rather untypical for millipedes.

 

Keeping should be adapted to the conditions and it is best to offer them very humid, but also drier places in the terrarium. Alienostreptus bicoloripes is not a food specialist and accepts white rotten wood, food leaves, but also mushrooms, fruits and vegetables without problems.

The terrarium size would be 80 × 60 × 60 cm, which is big enough for this breeding group. We offer only one complete breeding group, consisting of one male and eight females. Mating could already be observed and we hope that breeding will succeed and this beautiful species will remain in our hobby.
