Cuttlebone

The cuttlebone is the back bone of squid. The main material of the cuttlebone is aragonite (chemically a calcium carbonate, i.e. lime). In addition, it contains many other trace elements. The cuttlebone is one of the best natural sources of calcium. We take great care to ensure that the shell has been well washed by the manufacturer so that the stored sea salt is completely washed out.

Cuttlefish shells are rich in calcium and other important minerals. Especially useful for birds to support bone and feather growth, for aquarium inhabitants such as snails but also other invertebrates during molting. Especially in terraristics, cuttlefish serves as a natural calcium supplier and ensures healthy growth and a smooth build-up of the chitinous shell.

Simply give small pieces of the cuttlebone to the cage or in the aquarium or terrarium. Please remove the pieces of shell from the aquarium after a few weeks, as they will begin to rot. Birds should be provided with cuttlebones on a permanent basis! Our cuttlefish is also great for turtles, as they need a lot of calcium for their shells. Birds also use the cuttlefish shell for beak care.

The size of the individual bowls is in comparison to a commercial cricket tin.
