Anadenobolus monilicornis “Bumble-Bee Millipedes”

Short description:

The antennae and legs are colored red in Anadenobolus monilicornis. The body is silver seen laterally and the back is seen yellow dorsally.
The entire body is also streaked with black horizontal stripes. Anadenobolus monilicornis belongs to the most colorful
millipede species of all. The sex can be recognized, as with many other millipedes, by the fact, that one or two pairs of legs on the seventh segment of the male are transformed into the mating organ (gonopod).
Viewed from the side, it appears as if pairs of legs are missing at this point.

The species is quite easy to keep and is considered a good beginner species. Sometimes they are also known under the synonyms “Bumble-Bee
Millipede” or “Diplopoda sp. Barbados neon yellow”. It is considered to be relatively easy to breed. The age is usually given with 2-2,5 years, but the adults die relatively fast after mating. Anadenobolus monilicornis are sexually mature at about 1.5-2 years.

Due to the relatively small adult size of this species it can be kept in terrariums with an edge length of 30 cm or more.
However, care should be taken that there is enough space for a sufficiently high filled substrate.
The substrate height should not be less than 5 cm for this species!
The substrate serves the animals as habitat and food at the same time and should therefore be selected carefully.
The animals are mainly nocturnal, so you can do without an additional light source.
The substrate should always be kept semi-moist, a humidity of 70-80% has proven successful.
Cover the substrate with pieces of bark or moss. This helps to protect it from drying out.
