Short description:
Psalmopoeus cambridgei is light brown in base coloration, gray metallic to greenish. On its abdomen there is a slight shading and a longitudinal black stripe. On its tarsi (last section of the leg) it has an orange-brown stripe. It comes from the Trinidad. This island is located a few kilometers off Venezuela and the South American continent. The tropical climate is characterized by daytime temperatures of about 30 °C, at night the temperature drops to 20 °C. The main part of the moderate annual precipitation of 2000 mm falls between June and October.
We keep our animals at a daytime temperature of 28 °C and a nighttime drop to 20 °C. However, it is also no problem for the animals to keep them at room temperature. This increases the development time, but Psalmopoeus cambridgei does not suffer any postural damage as a result. Humidity of 75% is easily achieved by regular water spraying.Psalmopoeus cambridgei is definitely a beginner species, but you have to be careful when handling it. The animals are really very fast and like to jump out of the terrarium. Therefore it is best to change the water of the nocturnal tree bird spider during the day and observe the animal in its living quarters. At night they like to sit on their tube web and wait for an insect to approach to eat it. In doing so, Psalmopoeus cambridgei is quite uncompromising and greedily grabs at anything that approaches. They also like to scout out the environment outside the enclosure. Therefore, make sure your terrariums or boxes are lockable or tight.
