Short description:
The ground colour of this species is grey. The legs and antennae are white-grey in colour.
The “Cuban isopod” was one of the first isopod species available in terraristics. It owes its good reputation as a ground police and food animal to its uncomplicated keeping and reproduction. Its range of use is extensive and it copes excellently in very different climatic zones.
It feeds on the organic material contained in the substrate as well as on additional food such as vegetables, fruit and isopod food. A large layer of foliage on the substrate is very popular as a feeding and hiding place. The species regularly stays on the surface in adult status and can be observed well. The reproduction rate of this species is enormous and sometimes somewhat beyond the scope. Therefore, it can only be used to a limited extent as a ground police for non-predatory care birds.
