The Pachnoda marginata peregrina, known as the Congo rose beetle, is a colourful inhabitant of the tropical regions of Africa and a fascinating terrarium inhabitant. The striking colours of the adult beetle – bright yellow wing covers with a characteristic black edge – make it a real eye-catcher in any terrarium.
Its small size of around 2.5 to 3 cm makes it manageable for a variety of terrarium sizes. The beetle prefers a terrarium with a moist soil layer and plenty of hiding places, such as under pieces of bark or large piles of leaves, which ensure a high level of humidity.
The larvae of Pachnoda marginata peregrina are also important as they serve as high-quality live food for various terrarium animals. They are rich in protein and offer a soft body structure, which makes them an ideal food source. These larvae are particularly popular with larger reptiles and amphibians and are easily digestible. Their breeding also provides an excellent opportunity to observe and understand the life cycle of this beetle species.
Thanks to its attractive appearance and easy keeping, the Congo rose chafer is an excellent choice for terrarium enthusiasts who want to bring a piece of exotic nature into their home. Its vibrant colours and interesting behaviour make it a lively and educational element in any terrarium.
