Short description:
The biped, which belongs to the band-footed species, originates from southern Thailand. The exact place of discovery is Ao Nang. Limestone characterizes the environment there, where tropical monsoon climate prevails.
The species-appropriate keeping and care of Orthomorpha spec. “Ao Nang” is relatively easy. The exotics can grow to a final size of nearly 4 cm in the terrarium. Therefore they need a terrarium with dimensions of at least 30 × 30 × 30 cm.
In their natural habitat the Orthomorpha spec. “Ao Nang” are mainly found near the ground. This should definitely be taken into account when designing the terrarium. For this reason the substrate height should be at least 10 cm. A mixture of forest humus, white rotted wood, sphagnum moss and foliage has proven to be an excellent breeding substrate. Flake Soil and forage leaves are also readily accepted by the animals. Orthomorpha spec. “Ao Nang” require a lot of lime in the substrate. For this very reason it is important to mix double the amount of lime granules or shell grit into the Substart.
Orthomorpha spec. “Ao Nang” occasionally also like to climb. For this reason, climbing opportunities should be provided. Lava rock, as shown in the product photo, is gladly used as a climbing opportunity. In addition, this type of rock also stores moisture and thus provides a tropical climate in the terrarium.
Orthomorpha spec. “Ao Nang” can be kept in pairs or in groups without any problems. If kept in groups, offspring are regularly produced and one can observe the growth of the small band-footed animals.
Orthomorpha spec. “Ao Nang” like it warm and humid. The temperature in the terrarium should be between 22 and 26 °C. A high humidity is important. To protect the animals from drought, the terrarium should be watered regularly.
Feeding appropriate to the species is not difficult. Orthomorpha spec. “Ao Nang” accept white rotten wood, food leaves, vegetables, fruits and centipede food without any problems.
The keeping of Orthomorpha spec. “Ao Nang” is also suitable for inexperienced keepers and forgives the one or other carelessness or overprotection. The animals can be bred successfully and are meanwhile available as stable offspring.
