Golden wonders: insights into a rare species of tarantula
Cyclosternum spec. “Aureum” is one of the rarest tarantulas available in the trade. Little is known about this species from South America. With a body length of around 4 cm, this tarantula remains relatively small and leads a fossorial lifestyle, creating underground tunnels with several entrances. It finds optimal living conditions at temperatures of 20-25 °C and a humidity of over 80 %.
The name “Aureum”, which means golden, is reflected in its appearance: the spider’s carapace is golden in colour, which contrasts impressively with the bluish-tinted legs and the red-brown abdomen. The joints of the legs also stand out in a golden colour.
The offspring for sale here are descended from parents that were among the first available in Germany.
As this species has not yet been scientifically described, it is uncertain whether it will remain in the genus Cyclosternum. A detailed morphological description is still pending, and initial genetic analyses may indicate a different classification. It remains exciting to see what further knowledge we will gain about this exceptionally rare tarantula species!
This substrate depth also supports appropriate humidity regulation and provides enough space for plants or decorative elements to create a natural environment. The compact design of the terrarium makes it an excellent choice for Cyclosternum spec. “Aureum”, for a species-appropriate and appealing home for your small animal spider.
