Short description:
Caribena versicolor is without a doubt one of the most colorful tarantulas in the world. The species was newly determined and was formerly known under the name Avicularia versicolor. In German-speaking countries it is also called “Martinique tree bird spider” with regard to its origin. The relatively small remaining species grows relatively fast and is already adult after two to two and a half years. During this time it also changes its appearance. The metallic blue spiderlings change over time to turquoise, red and purple beauties. In order to witness this development without negative surprises, a few things should be kept in mind.
The animals need water drops every two days for water intake. Therefore, you should regularly spray some water into a corner of the container. However, care should be taken, as Caribena versicolor absolutely does not tolerate waterlogging. It is best to use a container with good air circulation and a substrate that can absorb moisture well. We use a forest humus spaghnum moss mixture with a ratio of 3:1.For an adult Caribena versicolor we recommend a terrarium with the dimensions 20 × 20 × 30 cm. Therefore, our Jumping Spider Complete set is also perfectly suited for this species. The animals like to accept branches or cork barks which are placed diagonally in the terrarium, in order to build their living web in it. They are not choosy with food. Everything is accepted, which corresponds to their size. Leftover food should be removed immediately. Caribena versicolor is a very peaceful and calm species, which is also recommended for beginners.
