Short description:
Armadillidium granulatum “White Pearl” is the next colour morph of this species. As Armadillidium granulatum already delights numerous keepers with its size and ease of keeping, it is great news for anyone who wants to have a special isopod species with little previous knowledge.
The leucistic morph has a completely white ground colouration with black eyes. The size and also the easy keeping has not changed due to the mutation.
It is possible to keep a group of Armadillidium granulatum “White Pearl” in containers with a capacity of 5l or more without any problems. It is important to know that this isopod species will not reproduce if there is not enough space. Since the natural habitat is the litter layer in deciduous forests, special attention should be paid to this. If you want to create a terrarium that is close to nature, choose a substrate layer of deciduous forest humus, leaves and white rotten wood that is about 10 cm high. Moss, pieces of bark and leaves should be placed on top of this layer of substrate. On the one hand these things serve as shelter, on the other hand as food and to keep the humidity in the tank. The tank for Armadillidium granulatum “White Pearl” should always be kept moist. However, waterlogging should be avoided at all costs. A humidity of 60 to 80 % will normally settle by itself with regular spraying. The animals need lime to build up their shells, which can be given in the form of cuttlefish, crushed eggshells or similar. White rotten wood and leaves in the substrate serve as food. In addition, vegetables, fruit, blossoms and isopod food is readily accepted.
