Short description:
Archachatina spec. “Calabar” is relatively new to the hobby. They come from Nigeria, more precisely from the city of Calabar.
The snail shell varies in coloration. Sometimes it is heavily marbled, with a rich red top. Sometimes the colors are faded and you can only see it in the base. The snail body is light gray to black.
It is a great snail species, which easily goes to offered food and does not cause any problems. Archachatina spec. “Calabar” needs a forest terrarium with a substrate height of min. 15 cm. They sometimes bury themselves in it and especially for egg laying the height is very important.
Daytime temperatures of 25-28°C and a humidity of 80-90% have proven to be good for keeping this species. The animals are very active and explore their surroundings during the day. Like almost all snail species it should be kept in a group of min. 3 animals.
