Porcellionides pruinosus “Nominat”
Origin:
Cosmopolitical
Temperature:
23-26 °C, 25 °C is the perfect breeding temperature
Size:
up to 1,2 cm
Social Behaviour:
Porcellionides pruinosus regulary show up on the surface, they’re a great kind for beginners! They eat quite a lot and nearly everything, that’s why you can use them as a clean up crew. You can often find them between fallen leaves which they like to use as food as well.
Breeding:
The isopods reproduce very quickly! You even have to be careful that they won’t get too many for the tank. That’s why cuban isopods are also often used as feeding animals for average sized reptiles.
Specials:
There is an orange and a white form that both get eaten by different kinds of frogs and reptiles. As soon as we have enough animals of this kind, we will offer them in our shop!
Tipp: Cuban Isopods need a lot of calcium, that’s why we always offer enough cuttlebone.
I wrote an article about the food habits and the perfect tank of cuban Isopods.
