Short description for Theraphosa apophyse “Pink Foot Goliath Tarantula””:
Large and impressive are superlatives that are not mentioned here for marketing reasons, but correspond to the fact. The epithet Pink Foot Goliath Tarantula or Beard Eater Tarantula is therefore very appropriate for Theraphosa apophysis. Even spiderlings in FH1/FH2 overpower adult chocolate cockroaches. This also makes life easier for every beginner in spider keeping and you see a relatively large animal in your terrarium right from the start. In addition, Theraphosa apophysis is a very easy to care for spider species and will forgive one or two husbandry mistakes.
For an adult female, a terrarium with a size of 60 × 40 × 40 cm should be chosen. In the beginning, however, you can also use BraPlast tins and raise the animals to a certain size (FH4/FH5). The optimal humidity is 70 to 80 %, which is relatively high, so you should mix some Sphagnum moss into the forest humus to better retain the humidity. A plant in the terrarium also serves this purpose. A water bowl for liquid intake is absolutely necessary.
As Theraphosa apophysis lives in living tubes, hiding places should also be offered for the ground-dwelling tarantula species. Cork tubes simulate this need very well and are also readily accepted as hiding places. Theraphosa apophyse belongs to the bombardier spiders. It protects itself by shedding its stinging hairs. Skin contact with the stinging hairs can cause itching. Otherwise Theraphosa apophysis is considered a peaceful representative of its genus and bites very rarely.
