Short description for Alienostreptus bicoloripes:
Alienostreptus bicoloripes is a new large millipede species from the subfamily Rhynchoproctinae with striking two-colored, red-yellow legs in contrast to a black body.
This species originates from the Kon Chu Rang nature reserve. They are found there both during the day and at night. The areas they inhabit are very waterlogged and after frequent rains the water level rises and covers most of the habitat. Juveniles live a very inconspicuous and hidden life. The adults are distributed over a wide range of habitats, from the valley floor to the dry ridges with coniferous forest, which is rather atypical for millipedes.
The husbandry should be adapted to the conditions and it is best to offer them very moist, but also drier places in the terrarium. Alienostreptus bicoloripes is not a food specialist and accepts white rotten wood, food leaves, but also mushrooms, fruit and vegetables without any problems.
The terrarium size of 80 × 60 × 60 cm would be large enough for this breeding group. We only offer one complete breeding group, consisting of one male and eight females. Mating has already been observed and we hope that breeding will be successful and that this beautiful species will remain in our hobby.
