Brief description:
Telodeinopus aoutii is one of the medium-sized species, measuring up to 18 cm. T. aoutii originally comes from Togo and Ghana. In addition to the “normal” coloration of the animals, there is also a green breeding strain. The species can reach an age of up to 5 years. At 2-3 years of age they are adults and therefore sexually mature. The species is now regularly available as offspring in the trade, they are ideal as a beginner species and are unproblematic to breed.
The legs and the body of Telodeinopus aoutii are light and dark brown striped, sometimes going into greenish. Its antennae are dark brown, the head and anal valve are slightly lighter. With a length of up to 18 cm and a slender body, T. aoutii looks very graceful. The very long legs of this species are particularly striking.
The base area for a terrarium for Telodeinopus aoutii should not be less than 50 cm x 30 cm. The substrate should be at least 10 cm high, preferably more. Temperatures around 23°C have proved to be just as effective for this species as a humidity of 80-90 %. Like almost all millipede species, the animals are mainly crepuscular and nocturnal. Additional lighting is therefore not necessary. Heat should always be introduced into the terrarium from above.
To keep the moisture in the substrate, it can be covered with bark, moss or leaves. Telodeinopus aoutii rarely burrows. Instead, it looks for hiding places under pieces of bark or in small burrows. The species is a good climber, which is why appropriate branches are essential. Vegetables, fruit, pellets, flowers and much more can be offered as food and are readily accepted.
