Aphistogoniulus polleni – Madagascar’s colorful wonder

Immerse yourself in the colorful world of Madagascar with Aphistogoniulus polleni, also known under the breeding name Spirostreptidae spec. 6. Hardly any other millipede combines so much exoticism, colorfulness and gentle nature in one body – this inhabitant of the Madagascan rainforest is a real treasure for every terrarium.

Depending on the incidence of light, the body of this extraordinary diplopod shimmers in deep chestnut red to black, interspersed with bright black legs. When fully grown, Aphistogoniulus polleni reaches a length of about 15-18 cmbut remains more graceful and agile than its larger relatives – and is still an absolute eye-catcher.

This species loves a humid, well ventilated terrarium with sufficient soil depth. A substrate of leaf humus, decomposed wood and leaves not only offers ideal burrowing opportunities, but also provides an important source of food. 80-90 % humidity and temperatures between 22-26 °C create the ideal conditions for species-appropriate keeping. Moss, cork backboards and a few sturdy branches provide the animal with protection and give you the opportunity to observe its nocturnal activity.

Leaves, vegetables (e.g. cucumber, sweet potato), fish food, calcium supplements and various special mixtures are particularly suitable for feeding. Aphistogoniulus polleni is a quiet but very efficient feeder and also ensures a stable microclimate in the terrarium.

This species is considered relatively easy to breedHowever, it does require a little patience. The development of the young animals is slow but steady – a rewarding process for anyone who wants to experience the fascinating world of diplopods up close.

Aphistogoniulus polleni is more than just a terrarium animal – it is a living work of art from the treasure trove of Madagascar. Ideal for enthusiasts who are looking for something special and want to transform their terrarium into a colorful oasis of well-being.
