Hyllus cf. vietnamensis – Agile jumping artist with fascinating color development

The Hyllus cf. vietnamensis is an extraordinary jumping spider that impresses with both its appearance and its impressive jumping power. Its temperature and humidity requirements are similar to those of Hyllus diardi – a warm, slightly humid climate is ideal. A particular focus with this species is on a near-natural setup with real plants such as ivy or other robust, climbing-friendly plants. These not only provide a stable microclimate, but also a natural environment in which the spider can display its full range of behavior.

Compared to species such as Hyllus diardi, Hyllus giganteus or Hyllus walckenaeri, the bounce of the Hyllus cf. vietnamensis even more pronounced. Their precise and long jumps make them an active hunter that moves from point to point at lightning speed – an exciting behavior that can be observed particularly impressively in a well-structured terrarium design.

This species is also a highlight in terms of appearance. While the adult females resemble the sub-adult stage and impress with their fine pattern and harmonious color tones, the males turn into real gems over time: They develop a metallic green shimmer which, in combination with the striking markings, results in a spectacular play of colors.

The Hyllus cf. vietnamensis is therefore not only interesting for lovers of rare jumping spider species, but also for keepers who enjoy an active, highly visible and colorful fascinating species. With suitable furnishings, real plants and a terrarium that offers sufficient height and structure, the natural behavior of this jumping spider can be optimally observed and enjoyed.

The addition “cf.” in the scientific name stands for confer and is used when an animal closely resembles a known species but its definitive identification is not yet certain. With Hyllus cf. vietnamensis this means that the spider is similar in appearance, behavior and husbandry conditions to the described species Hyllus vietnamensis but there may still be small differences. This indication is particularly important in trade and breeding to make it clear that it is possibly a closely related but not definitively identified species.
