Brief description:
With its 7 mm diameter, Pachyiulus krivolutskyi is one of the slender millipede species. With its final size of up to 9 cm, it is one of the largest and perhaps most picturesque millipede species from the Caucasus. The yellow-ivory basic coloration of the animals is impressive and striking in the terrarium. They have a very thin black axial line and a black pattern on both sides. The legs are yellow-ivory and the antennae are short and black.
Due to the relatively small adult size, a terrarium measuring 30 x 30 x 30 cm or more is suitable. However, care should be taken to ensure that there is enough space for a sufficiently high substrate. The substrate height for this species should not be less than 9 cm! The substrate serves as both habitat and food for the animals and is also used for moulting.
Daytime temperatures of 17-25 °C have proven to be suitable for keeping this species. A diapause is not absolutely necessary, but can contribute to their readiness to mate. The substrate should always be kept half moist. A humidity of 70 to 85 % is closest to the conditions of their natural habitat. The substrate can also be covered with leaves, pieces of bark or moss. This helps to protect it from drying out.
Pachyiulus krivolutskyi are always found in forests in Russia. There they like to come out of the ground when it rains and explore their surroundings. This species differs from other millipede species by its smell, among other things. This can best be described as a strikingly repulsive garlic smell. This species is therefore not suitable for the living room, but rather for a hobby room. It is also not advisable to mix them with other millipede species or Isopod species.
