Trigoniulus corallinus – The coral red millipede for your terrarium

The
Trigoniulus corallinus
also known as coral red millipedeis a colorful, small species from South and Southeast Asia that delights both beginners and experienced terrarium keepers. With its intense red-orange coloration, it immediately catches the eye and brings vivid contrasts to any invertebrate terrarium. Its appearance is particularly impressive in near-natural setups.

With a length of about 5 to 6 cmTrigoniulus corallinus is one of the smaller species among the diplopods, but its lively activity is impressive. These animals are active both during the day and at night and can therefore be observed regularly – an ideal display animal for smaller terrariums. They are very peaceful, do not like to dig and can also be kept well in groups.

Keeping this tropical ground dweller is uncomplicated as long as a few basic conditions are met. The terrarium should be sufficiently humid, with humidity between 70 and 85 % and temperatures in the range of 22 to 26 °C. Good ventilation is nevertheless important, as standing moisture can quickly lead to mold growth. A suitable substrate is a permeable mixture of leaf humus leaf humus, white rotten wood and fodder leaveswhich is lightly moistened regularly. A layer of leaves on the substrate is not only decorative, but also serves as cover and a source of food for the animals.

The diet of Trigoniulus corallinus is typical of many millipedes: they utilize dead plant material and also like to eat food supplements such as carrots, fish flakes or dried herbs. Springtails and white Isopods can be added to the substrate to promote a stable microclimate.

Another plus point is that this species can also be successfully bred under good husbandry conditions. The tiny young animals develop slowly but continuously – an exciting process for any breeding observation.

Trigoniulus corallinus
is the perfect choice for anyone looking for a colorful, active and easy to care for species that also looks great in smaller terrariums.
