Porcellio scaber “Orange” – the brightly colored classic morph for every terrarium

Porcellio scaber “Orange” is one of the most popular color forms of the robust Scaber Isopods. The warm orange tones make this species a real eye-catcher in the terrarium. Many keepers appreciate them because they are active, adaptable and curious. As a result, they can often be seen during the day, which makes them particularly attractive for beginners and for bioactive setups.

Keeping “Orange” is very easy. The animals cope well with changing conditions and react tolerantly to minor fluctuations. A moist retreat area is important as this is where the Isopods absorb water and moult. At the same time, there should be a dry area so that they can choose what they need. This structure supports healthy behavior and promotes stable colonies.

They will eat practically anything that can be offered in an isopod terrarium. Foliage, moss, some wood and a high-quality protein supply form the basis. Vegetables or fish food can occasionally be added. Their activity is high, which is why they decompose organic material quickly and therefore play an important role in the bioactive system.

“Orange” shows good colony growth and reproduces regularly. The young animals initially have a lighter coloration, which intensifies with increasing age. As the animals are vigorous and lively, they are well suited to natural terrariums with reptiles, spiders or millipedes. At the same time, they are robust enough to be kept by beginners without any problems.

If you are looking for a decorative, stable and hard-working isopod species, Porcellio scaber “Orange” is a wonderful choice. Its color adds variety to the substrate and its behavior makes it an exciting species for any terrarium – large or small.
