Diurnal – Porcellio flavomarginatus in the terrarium

Porcellio flavomarginatus is one of the most strikingly colored isopod species in Europe. The striking pattern in particular, which contrasts with the dark gray body, makes this species a real eye-catcher. Whether in the species terrarium or as a functional addition to the organic team – these Isopods immediately attract attention.

They originally come from southern Europe, especially Greece, and prefer a warm, dry climate. In contrast to tropical species, they do not need consistently high humidity. A dry base area combined with a moist retreat – for example under moss or bark – is completely sufficient. These conditions are easy to implement and also make the species interesting for beginners.

Porcellio flavomarginatus is active during the day and shows itself frequently. The animals walk curiously through the terrarium, especially when feeding or after spraying. Their behavior is easy to observe – making them the ideal choice for anyone who wants to keep more than just hidden animals.

They are easy to feed with leaves, bark, vegetables or special isopod food. They are also uncomplicated to breed. They reproduce reliably and retain their striking appearance from juvenile to adulthood. Their robust nature and low shyness make them ideal for display tanks or structured setups where their social behavior can be easily seen.
