Brief description Phidippus bidentatus “Maya”:

Phidippus bidentatus “Maya” is an absolute rarity among jumping spiders and enjoys great popularity in the world of arachnid lovers. Their vibrant colors bring a smile to our faces, especially when they are illuminated by soft light.

These enchanting Phidippus bidentatus “Maya” are native to the depths of Mexico and reveal a fascinating variety of shades. Their basic colors range from delicate shades of light brown to deep black, often accompanied by a shimmering green. They also decorate their bodies with elaborate markings in red, purple or even blue.

Their large, alert eyes and beguiling gaze captivate even the most arachnophobic. A sight that makes us pause and be enchanted.

The growth of Phidippus bidentatus “Maya” is slow at first and only from FH5/6 do they increase in size. In FH3 they are about the size of Phidippus regius “North Florida” or Phidippus cf. regius Apalachicola” in FH2. These active and alert jumpers are extremely curious and agile. With increasing age, however, they become very calm and relaxed. A fascinating development that changes their personality and behavior over time.

In addition to their impressive eyes, we are enchanted by Phidippus bidentatus “Maya” with their iridescent chelicerae. The males proudly present shades of green, blue or violet, while the females often shine in red, orange or green-violet. They have striking and elaborate markings on their abdomen. The males are usually somewhat darker, but many of them still have a subtle, shimmering pattern. The females, on the other hand, surprise us with a wide range of color variations, from light beige-brown to deep grey. What is special about the Phidippus bidentatus “Maya” are the iridescent shades of their markings. Whether green, blue, red or violet – both males and females delight us with breathtaking nuances, although the males are often somewhat more reserved.

These delicate jumpers reach an average size of around 1.6 cm and can reach a respectable age of around 1.5 years.

Phidippus bidentatus “Maya” are active jumping spiders that depend on sufficient light and warmth. Unlike other spider species, they do not weave webs to catch their prey. Instead, they actively hunt and therefore require a well-lit environment to successfully capture their food.

In order for these fascinating jumping spiders to thrive in their terrarium, they need temperatures between 26 and 28 °C. In the upper region of their habitat, temperatures should ideally be around 28 °C. In addition, the humidity should be around 55-60 % to ensure a pleasant climate.

Sufficient hydration is essential for the healthy development of these jumping spiders. Phidippus bidentatus “Maya” consume fluids both from their prey and from drinking water. On warm days, it is advisable to spray them lightly, while spraying them every two days is sufficient during cooler periods.

Phidippus bidentatus “Maya” are a real treat for all those who are fascinated by the fascinating world of spiders. Immerse yourself in their colorful splendor and enjoy the variety and beauty they have to offer.
