Hyllus walckenaeri is currently the most agile and active jumping spider in our range – a real spectacle for every terrarium lover. This fascinating species is almost constantly on the move. It curiously explores its surroundings, shows a pronounced love of jumping and can cover great distances with impressive leaps. Anyone who enjoys observing jumping spiders in action will definitely have fun with this species.

Another plus point: within a group Hyllus walckenaeri significantly more socially compatible than many other species. Until the sub-adult stage, keeping them in groups is possible, provided there is sufficient space and hiding places. Nevertheless, you should observe their behavior regularly so that you can react in good time at the first signs of stress or food envy.

Sexual dimorphism is particularly pronounced in this species: Males differ greatly from females not only in color, but also in body shape. The strikingly large chelicerae of the males are a typical feature and make them easily recognizable.

In feeding is Hyllus walckenaeri uncomplicated as long as you pay attention to the correct size of the prey. Suitable prey include fruit flies, house flies and oven fish. Anything that is not eaten within a day should be removed to avoid mold or stress. We feed and water young animals every three days, adult animals about once a week.

The optimum humidity level is around 70 %, whereby good ventilation of the terrarium is essential. Instead of spraying large areas, it is sufficient to lightly moisten a corner. The animals drink specifically from the drops – too much humidity, on the other hand, can be problematic.
