Armadillidium spec. “St. Lucia” is a very variable-colored woodlouse. It originally comes from the island of St. Lucia and has quickly established itself in the hobby. Although it is not scientifically described, it is usually classified as a Armadillidium vulgare-shape circle. The animals show an impressive variety: some have warm orange and yellow tones, others appear gray-blue or almost black. Some animals have small spots or fine patterns, so that each group looks slightly different.

This local form belongs to the medium-sized woodlice and reaches about two centimeters. Many animals are frequently seen, as they are more active during the day than other members of their species. This makes their behavior easy to observe, which makes them particularly attractive to Isopod fans. In the event of danger, they immediately curl up into a tight ball, effectively protecting themselves from predators and dehydration.
