Creobroter spec. ‘Yunnan’: Dynamic blaze of colour in the terrarium
Creobroter spec. “Yunnan”, a fascinating mantis species that enriches every terrarium with its lively behaviour and striking appearance. This species originates from the Yunnan region and is known for its activity and interesting communication using its muzzle legs.
The Creobroter spec. “Yunnan” produces between 20 and 40 nymphs per ootheca, making it an excellent choice for breeding. Young nymphs of this species can easily be kept in groups up to the L4 stage, which makes observing their social interactions and communication patterns particularly interesting.
A characteristic feature of these mantis shrimps is the wiggling of their tentacles, a form of communication that also takes place among themselves.
A visual highlight of this species is the striking ‘eye’ on its wings, which simulates larger predators and serves as a deterrent. This optical illusion, combined with its vivid green and yellow colouring, makes the Creobroter spec. “Yunnan” a real eye-catcher.
For optimal husbandry, the terrarium conditions should be moist and warm, with sufficient structure for climbing and hiding places. Temperatures should ideally be between 24 and 30 degrees Celsius, with high humidity to mimic the natural habitat. The minimum size for the terrarium is 12x10x17 cm, which provides sufficient space to support and encourage the natural behaviour of the Creobroter spec. “Yunnan”.
The Creobroter spec. “Yunnan” is not only an asset to any terrarium because of its beauty and behaviour, but also offers an insight into the fascinating world of insect communication. Their care and breeding are uncomplicated, making them an excellent choice for both experienced keepers and beginners.
Bring colour and life to your terrarium with the Creobroter spec. “Yunnan” and experience the dynamic world of these extraordinary mantis shrimps.
