Thanks to the Drosophila Basic Set, breeding Drosophila is child’s play.
The breeding powder contains all the ingredients to ensure that the offspring grow quickly and healthily. The breeding mixture has a pleasant banana smell and can therefore also be left in the living area.
Application:
Empty the breeding powder into the breeding container and add 100 ml of water. Alternatively, you can also use 90 ml of water with 10 ml of table vinegar. This also helps to prevent the formation of mold.
Stir with a spoon and press the wood wool on top. The existing Drosophilas can then be added for breeding. Whether Drosophila hydei or Drosophila melanogaster, the breeding mash is suitable for both forms. Leave the cup at room temperature without direct sunlight and the first offspring can be fed after just 2 weeks.
The cooler the can is kept, the slower the animals develop. Detailed information can be found in our husbandry report on Drosophila hydei.
