Brief description of Tropidacris collaris:
Tropidacris collaris “giant grasshopper” require a temperature of 22 to 30 °C and a humidity of between 60 and 80 percent. This can be achieved by spraying the terrarium every two days. The amount of water depends on the size of the terrarium and the ventilation areas. Tropidacris collaris “giant grasshopper” like to sit at the highest point in the terrarium during the day. They like to eat blackberry leaves, which are easy to obtain all year round, making them very uncomplicated terrarium keepers. The food plants are placed in the terrarium as leafy branches, preferably in narrow-necked vases. The egg packets, which contain 50-100 eggs, are laid by the females in the substrate. Care should be taken to ensure that the substrate is 10 cm high. The eggs have an incubation period of approx. 12 months depending on the temperature.
