Brief description Phidippus regius “North Florida”:

Phidippus regius “North Florida” is a jumping spider that is native to Florida. It is primarily a tree-dwelling species. The females reach a body length of around 2.0 cm. Their iridescent fangs can vary in color from purple to green. In contrast to the females, the males of this species have a black base coloration.

Like all jumping spiders, the animals are quite agile and you can actually always see them. For this reason, you should provide plenty of climbing opportunities in the terrarium. Shortly before moulting, they climb into their web and remain there until the process is complete. Phidippus regius “North Florida” are hunters and capture their food without any problems, and it is always a spectacle to watch them do so. We offer our jumping spiders food twice a week. When feeding cockroaches, crickets or grasshoppers, the uneaten food should be removed on the same day. When jumping spiders shed their skin they are defenceless and can be nibbled on by insects. An alternative to these food animals would be Drosophila, Terfly and flesh flies.

The humidity should be 70% with good ventilation, so we spray a corner of the terrarium briefly every two days. This is completely sufficient and it is better to spray a little more sparingly than too much. The animals absorb the drops of water as required to quench their thirst.

Note: This species comes in three fascinating color variations, ranging from a soft, light gray to a deep dark gray and even a warm shade of red.
