Short description for Merulanella spec. “Black Hole” !
Merulanella spec. “Black Hole“ is similar in size and body shape to Merulanella spec. “Ember Bee“ and “Lava”. The black is dark, matt and deep, unlike any other isopod species to date.
We increase the substrate height of the forest humus to 10-15 cm for all Merulanella species. Due to the relatively high humidity of 80 %, it makes sense to use more substrate that can absorb excess water. A drainage layer of expanded clay is also an option to prevent waterlogging.
A generous layer of leaves is often used by the animals as a hiding place and for feeding. A perforated limestone serves as a hiding place and for additional calcium intake. However, cuttlefish should still be offered.
Merulanella spec. “Black Hole“ are good climbers and even small lime residues on the walls are enough for them to climb them. Therefore, make sure that the lid closes tightly. The housing should also be tight so that the offspring cannot simply wander out of the terrarium. Window insulation tape is very suitable for sealing problematic areas.
