We generally recommend winter shipping from November to April.
If the temperatures permanently fall below 5°, and below freezing point at night , winter packaging is absolutely essential.
In order to prevent the isopods and insects from freezing during the winter, we must package them in a specially protected way. Isopods and insects are warm animals, they cannot produce their own body heat and depend on their ambient temperature. If the temperatures fall below zero in winter, the insects can freeze to death. To avoid this, we use our winter packaging, which prevents the shipping box from cooling down and will therefore protect your animals against freezing.
Winter packaging:
Winter packaging consists of a combination of insulation and heating. A multi-walled carton and special polystyrene plates (30 mm), which are inserted into the carton to fit, ensure good insulation to protect the contents from the cold that invades the box. Heat is generated by a 48 hour and/or a 72 hour heatpack, which react on contact with atmospheric oxygen and radiate heat.
Winter packaging Safety First:
A thermobox with a lid ensures optimum insulation to protects the contents from the ingress of cold. We will adapt the size of the Thermobox to your order. Heat is generated by a 48 hour and/or a 72 hour heat pack. With this winter packing the animals are optimally protected and we recommend you to choose this option on especially cold winter days. For springtails and white isopods, which are very sensitive to cold, we advise you to choose this box at temperatures below 10°C.
