Phidippus spec. “Ometepe” is a jumping spider native to Ometepe Island, Nicaragua. It is primarily an arboreal species. The basic coloration of the females is a shimmering metallic green. On the abdomen it has an orange and black striped pattern. The males of this species have an inconspicuous black ground coloration.
The animals are like all jumping spiders quite agile and one gets to see them actually always. Shortly before molting they climb into their webs and stay there until the process is finished. The animals are hunters and capture their food without any problems. It is always a spectacle to watch them.
Humidity should be at 70% with good ventilation. We spray in a corner every two days. This is sufficient and it is better to spray sparingly than too much. The animals absorb the water drops as needed and thus quench their thirst.
