Porcellio spec. “Sevilla Caramel” – The caramel-colored giant isopod <\/span><\/h3>\n

Porcellio spec. “Sevilla Caramel” <\/span><\/strong> is a particularly conspicuous Isopod from <\/span>southern Spain<\/span>more precisely from the region around <\/span>Seville<\/span>. This species is one of the larger Porcellio species from the Mediterranean region and is mainly known for its <\/span>warm caramel brown coloration<\/span> very popular with terrarium keepers.<\/span><\/p>\n

The animals have a <\/span>uniform brown to caramel-colored basic coloration<\/span>which can vary slightly depending on the animal. Some specimens appear lighter, while others have slightly darker markings. This creates a very natural and varied appearance within a group. <\/span><\/p>\n

With a body size of about <\/span>2 to 2.5 cm<\/span> belongs to <\/span> Porcellio spec. “Sevilla Caramel” <\/span><\/strong> is one of the larger isopod species in the hobby. At the same time, the animals are relatively active and can therefore be observed regularly in the terrarium. If they feel disturbed, they quickly flee under bark or foliage. <\/span><\/p>\n

A suitable enclosure is <\/span>a well-ventilated isopod terrarium<\/span> or a sturdy plastic box. A container from about <\/span>5 to 10 liters volume<\/span> is sufficient for a smaller group, but larger colonies develop much better in more spacious containers.<\/span><\/p>\n

The recommended substrate is <\/span>nutrient-rich substrate<\/span> from forest humus, leaves and white rotten wood. In addition, a thick <\/span>Foliage layer<\/span> lying on the substrate. On the one hand it serves as food, on the other hand it offers many hiding places. <\/span><\/p>\n
