Heteropoda davidbowie – Named for species conservation<\/span><\/h3>\n

Heteropoda davidbowie<\/span><\/strong>also known as <\/span>David Bowie spider<\/span> belongs to the <\/span>giant crab spiders (Sparassidae)<\/span> and immediately stands out because of its name. This name was chosen deliberately, <\/span>to generate attention and at the same time draw attention to the extinction of species<\/span>which also reaches people who are otherwise not interested in spiders.<\/span><\/p>\n

The species has a very striking appearance. <\/span>Females reach about 21 to 25 mm<\/span>while males remain somewhat smaller, making it easy to distinguish the sexes. The body appears gray to reddish-brown and has several spots, <\/span>while at the same time the bright orange hair stands out particularly strongly<\/span>. This creates a striking contrast that immediately catches the eye. The legs also show light and dark ring markings, giving the entire animal a very lively appearance. <\/span><\/p>\n

Young animals initially tend to behave in a hidden manner, <\/span>as they prefer to stay on the ground and actively seek shelter<\/span>. They use foliage and small structures, <\/span>to disguise themselves and stay safe at the same time<\/span>. However, this behavior changes significantly with increasing age, because from around <\/span>FH4, the animals show themselves openly much more often<\/span>. They like to sit on pieces of bark and actively wait there for prey.<\/span><\/p>\n

The animals hunt very confidently and attack even larger food animals without hesitation, <\/span>which shows them to be efficient hunters<\/span>. At the same time, they lose their shyness over time, which is why you should be careful when working in the terrarium. <\/span>always be careful and use tweezers<\/span>.<\/span><\/p>\n

Spray the terrarium lightly <\/span>lightly every two days<\/span>so that the animals can absorb sufficient moisture, <\/span>while at the same time you should avoid waterlogging<\/span>to prevent problems.<\/span><\/p>\n

Feeding takes place <\/span>once a week<\/span>where suitable food insects are offered. Make sure to remove uneaten animals promptly, <\/span>to avoid stress and disruption<\/span>.<\/span><\/p>\n

Breeding is also exciting, as one female produces a cocoon with around <\/span>100 to 150 young<\/span>which can quickly produce many offspring. Keep them together until about <\/span>FH3<\/span>, <\/span>before you separate them<\/span>otherwise cannibalism may occur.<\/span><\/p>\n
