Theraphosa blondi – Giantess from the rainforest<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n

Theraphosa blondi,<\/strong> also known as the Goliath tarantula, is one of the largest known spider species in the world – and its appearance is just as impressive as its size. Adult females reach a leg span of over 25 cm and a weight of up to 170 g. This makes this species a real giant. This makes this species one of the true giants among tarantulas – both visually and in terms of their behavior. Even young animals show astonishingly rapid growth, which makes them particularly interesting for keepers with a penchant for large species. <\/span><\/p>\n

Typical for Theraphosa blondi<\/strong> is its voracious nature. It almost always accepts food greedily and usually goes straight for any prey offered. This appetite goes well with their strong physique – and their need for nutrients is correspondingly high. Large feeder insects, cockroaches and, from a certain age, a mouse as a special highlight are suitable for feeding. Despite their healthy appetite, it is important to ensure a balanced feeding interval to prevent them from becoming overweight. <\/span><\/p>\n

Their behavior is partly defensive, but can quickly turn offensive if they feel pressured. They should therefore only be kept by experienced owners who can handle the temperament of this impressive species. Their venom is not dangerous to humans, but they have particularly large chelicerae that can cause serious mechanical injuries when they bite. Its stinging hairs are also considered very unpleasant and should not be underestimated. <\/span><\/p>\n

A sufficiently large terrarium is recommended for keeping – at least 50 \u00d7 40 \u00d7 40 cm for adult animals. It is important to provide a deep substrate of burrowable soil or forest humus with a moist zone (e.g. moss area or slightly moistened substrate area) and a drier corner so that the animal can choose for itself. A water bowl should always be available. As Theraphosa blondi<\/strong> originates from tropical regions, a high humidity of around 80-90% is desirable – at the same time, however, care must be taken to ensure good ventilation to prevent waterlogging and mold growth. <\/span><\/p>\n

Contrary to popular belief, it should not get too hot in the terrarium for Theraphosa blondi<\/strong> – temperatures between 24 and 26 \u00b0C during the day, dropping slightly at night, are ideal. Excessively high temperatures quickly lead to stress and can damage the animal in the long term. <\/span><\/p>\n

This species is an impressive highlight for large terrariums with a rainforest character.
