This colorful millipede species from Southeast Asia is a real highlight for any lover of exotic invertebrates and is guaranteed to attract attention with its striking appearance. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The body of <strong>Desmoxytes planata &#8220;pink dragonfoot&#8221;<\/strong> is bright pink to strong pink &#8211; a coloration that is absolutely unique in the world of diplopods. Its name-giving, dragon-like appendages along the body segments are reminiscent of the dorsal plates of a mythical creature and give it not only its spectacular appearance, but also its nickname. With a length of about 3  <\/span> <span class=\"s2\"> up to 4 cm<\/span><span class=\"s1\"> the animals remain comparatively small, but are all the more active and can often be observed on their nocturnal forays.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The pink dragonfoot is robust when kept as long as certain parameters are observed. It prefers a rather tropical, humid terrarium with good ventilation.  Temperatures between  <\/span><span class=\"s2\">22 and 26 \u00b0C<\/span><span class=\"s1\"> and a <\/span><span class=\"s2\">humidity around 75-85 %<\/span><span class=\"s1\">  create the right environment. A suitable substrate is a mixture of   <\/span><span class=\"s2\">leaf humus, white rotten wood and leaves<\/span><span class=\"s1\">which is always kept slightly moist.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Like most millipedes, <strong>Desmoxytes planata &#8220;pink dragonfoot&#8221;<\/strong> feeds on organic material. Their diet is supplemented by vegetables, fish food or dried herbs. Due to their activity and colorfulness, they are ideal display animals for smaller, warm and humid setups &#8211; even when kept in groups, provided there is enough space and hiding places.  <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The animals are mostly active at dusk and at night. Particularly exciting: when threatened, they can secrete a milky white substance, which serves as a deterrent to predators in the wild.
