Shell grit – Mineral support in the terrarium

A balanced supply of minerals is the basis for healthy and long-lived terrarium inhabitants. Mussel grit offers a simple yet very effective way of providing calcium on a permanent basis. The finely crushed material consists of natural mussel shells and provides exactly the minerals that many invertebrates need for their body structure.

Snail species in particular, such as African giant snails, Isopods and millipedes, are dependent on a constant supply of calcium. Only if sufficient minerals are available will the shell grow evenly, stably and without brittle areas. Isopods, millipedes and other arthropods also benefit significantly from this, as they have to rebuild their shells after each moult. During growth phases or in young animals, this requirement increases even more.

You can either offer the grit in a separate food bowl or place it in a specific place in the terrarium. The animals regulate their intake independently and help themselves as required. This means that there is no oversupply, but a natural, demand-oriented use. At the same time, the climate in the terrarium remains stable as the material does not become moldy and does not retain moisture. However, you can also mix it directly into the substrate so that your animals have permanent access to a natural source of calcium in the substrate. This allows snails, Isopods or millipedes to ingest the shells directly if required. This combination of admixture and surface supply ensures a constant and easily accessible supply of minerals – even in permanently humid, tropical setups.

This natural product also blends harmoniously into bioactive terrariums. Microorganisms and soil inhabitants benefit indirectly from the improved nutrient base, while the ecological balance remains stable. In combination with cuttlebone or special mineral feed, a reliable all-round supply is created.

If you want to maintain healthy animals with a strong body or stable exoskeleton in the long term, you should not do without a high-quality source of calcium. Mussel grit is an uncomplicated, natural and proven solution for responsible keepers.
