Discover the Phidippus spec. “Ometepe”: The unique jumping spider of Nicaragua
Phidippus spec. “Ometepe” is a jumping spider that is native to the island of Ometepe in Nicaragua. It is primarily a tree-dwelling species. The basic coloration of the females is a shimmering metallic green with an orange-black striped pattern on the abdomen. The males of this species have an inconspicuous black base coloration.
Like all jumping spiders, the animals are quite agile and you can actually always see them. Shortly before moulting, they climb into their web and remain there until the process is complete. The animals are hunters and have no problem capturing their food. It is always a spectacle to watch them.
The humidity should be 70% with good ventilation. We spray one corner every two days. This is perfectly adequate and it is better to spray a little more sparingly than too much. The animals absorb the water droplets as required and thus quench their thirst.
