Neoregelia ampullacea “Tigrina” – Tropical beauty for the terrarium

The Neoregelia ampullacea “Tigrina” is an impressive bromeliad that is ideal for tropical terrariums. With its distinctive, narrow leaves, which are characterized by a bright green base color and dark, tigrine-like stripes, it brings not only structure but also a natural play of colour to any habitat. This species is known for its robust adaptability and its ability to blend perfectly into warm, humid environments.

In its natural habitat, the tropical rainforests of Brazil, Neoregelia “Tigrina” grows epiphytically on trees or between rock crevices. In the terrarium, its funnel-shaped growth form creates an authentic, lifelike ambience and can also serve as a source of water and retreat for smaller terrarium inhabitants.

Caring for this plant is uncomplicated. It requires a high humidity of around 70-90%, which makes it an ideal choice for rainforest and tropical terrariums. It is flexible when it comes to light requirements: it thrives best in medium to strong light with an illumination of approx. 1,200-2,000 lumens per 30 × 30 cm area. Too intense, direct light should be avoided as it can bleach the leaves, while too little light will cause the characteristic stripes to fade.

With a height of around 15-25 cm, the Neoregelia ampullacea “Tigrina” remains compact and is therefore also suitable for smaller terrariums. Its dense foliage creates hiding places and climbing areas that are popular with reptiles, amphibians and invertebrates.

The “Tigrina” is not only decorative, but also functional – it increases humidity, helps to create a balanced microclimate and at the same time brings a lively, exotic flair to the terrarium.
