Kinshi is a pressed block block of beech chipswhich is originally used as a substrate for growing mushrooms. In this special substrate grow Shiitake mushroomswhich permeate the wood with their mycelium.

During growth, the fungal mycelia break down the cellulose of the beech chips from. This creates a structure that is strongly reminiscent of white rotten wood reminds us. It is precisely this material that many terrarium animals particularly like to eat.

After the mushroom harvest, the so-called kinshi block back. This is ideal as a Food for Isopods, millipedes, springtails and beetle larvae. The animals quickly begin to form small corridors through the block and at the same time use it as food and structure in the terrarium.

Due to the decomposition caused by the fungus, the wood is already and is particularly easy to utilize. It is therefore readily accepted by many soil dwellers and supports their growth and development.

The kinshi in our range comes from a regional regional mushroom growerwho cultivates shiitake mushrooms on it. After harvesting, the substrate is reused and thus receives a Ecologically sensible secondary use in the terrarium.

Especially in bioactive terrariums it is an excellent addition. It serves both as a food source for the soil police and as a structure in the substrate.

Many owners also use Kinshi as an alternative to white rotten woodas it has similar properties and is just as well accepted by many decomposer organisms.

As it is a natural product the shape, structure and size of the Kinshi blocks can vary slightly. It is precisely these natural differences that make each piece unique.
