Brief description:
Isopoda spec. “Thailand Spiny” originates from the south of Thailand, among other places. However, the species has also made it across the Sankarakhiri Mountains and is therefore also found in Malaysia. In this area, the monsoon comes into its own and brings heavy rainfall all year round from May to October on the west coast and from October to December on the east coast.
Isopoda spec. “Thailand Spiny” is mainly found in the vicinity of ferns. This allows us to draw some conclusions about keeping them in the terrarium. They like it a little more humid than Cubaris species such as Cubaris spec. “Rubber Ducky”. It therefore makes sense to place a drainage layer in the terrarium. To do this, fill in a 2 cm high layer of clay granules or gravel at the bottom. This prevents waterlogging of the substrate and the soil from becoming moldy. Plants that draw the excess water out of the drainage have proven their worth.
The animals eat foliage eagerly and are not picky when it comes to food. They like to use hiding places which also demonstrate the social behavior of Isopoda spec. “Thailand Spiny”. The young isopods stay almost exclusively under the care of their parents and run little risk of leaving the safe hiding place and the protection of the adults.
Their spiny appearance makes them a very special Isopod species. The entire body structure is also very massive and appears somewhat stocky. Therefore, despite its small overall length, it appears larger than it actually is. So if you are thinking of a small, dainty Isopod, you are definitely wrong about Isopoda spec. “Thailand Spiny”.
If the humidity requirements are met, Isopoda spec. “Thailand Spiny” can be a lot of fun. The animals can be bred and you can observe their interesting social behavior. By planting plants in the terrarium, you can create a beautiful rainforest terrarium that will be an eye-catcher in any room.
