The Iresine herbstii “Bloodleaf” is an unusual terrarium plant that immediately catches the eye with its intense colors. Its deep dark red leaves with bright pink to purple veins lend any terrarium an exotic and lively atmosphere. This plant originates from the warm, tropical regions of South America, where it thrives in humid and light-flooded habitats. With its striking leaf pattern, it not only creates visual highlights, but also provides structure and hiding places for terrarium inhabitants.

The “Bloodleaf” prefers high humidity of 70-85 %This makes it ideal for rainforest and humid terrariums. In combination with its bushy growth habit, it creates a dense, natural ambience. With a growth height of approx. 25-40 cm it remains compact enough to show off well in medium-sized terrariums, while its striking leaf color is still a real eye-catcher.

Iresine herbstii is flexible when it comes to lighting, but needs a good basic light level to retain its intense coloration. Ideal are 1,200-1,800 lumens per square meter, whereby direct, strong light should be avoided. Under optimal conditions, the leaves remain brightly colored and healthy.

The plant prefers a nutrient-rich, slightly moist soilwhich is why it should be watered regularly, but not too heavily. It does not tolerate waterlogging. Due to its robust nature, it is also suitable for beginners who want to quickly add color and tropical flair to their terrarium.
