Fittonia Joly Josan – a splash of color for the terrarium

The Fittonia Joly Josan is a particularly attractive cultivated form of the well-known mosaic plant and adds a touch of the exotic to any terrarium. With its dark green leaves interspersed with vivid red veins, it immediately attracts everyone’s attention. Its compact growth and bright colors make it a popular choice for planting in tropical terrariums.

Fittonia originally comes from the tropical rainforests of South America, where it grows in the humid undergrowth. It therefore also prefers a High humidity of around 70-90 %. It loves a warm, even climate with temperatures between 22 and 28 °C and is ideal for tropical terrarium inhabitants such as geckos, frogs or insects.

An important factor in keeping them is the right lighting. The Fittonia Joly Josan thrives best with 3000-5000 lumenbut without direct, strong sunlight. Too much light can cause the leaves to dry out, while too little light can cause their colors to fade. A location in the middle to lower section of the terrarium, combined with soft LED lighting, is ideal.

With its compact size of about 10-15 cm growth height Fittonia is perfect as a ground cover or as a colorful accent between larger terrarium plants such as bromeliads or ferns. Its bushy growth habit also creates a dense, natural look in the terrarium and offers small animals protection and retreats.

The care of the Fittonia Joly Josan is uncomplicated: The soil should always be kept slightly moist, but without waterlogging. In an environment with stable humidity, the plant remains healthy and retains its intense colors for a long time.

The Fittonia Joly Josan is therefore not only a decorative but also a functional plant that enriches the microclimate in the terrarium and ensures a harmonious overall picture.
