Fittonia albivenis “Mini White” – delicate beauty for terrariums

The Fittonia albivenis “Mini White”also known as the “nerve plant”, is one of the most popular terrarium plants, as it brings incomparable elegance to any design with its high-contrast leaves. The lush green leaves are interspersed with fine, white veins that create an artistic pattern. This plant provides fresh accents in the terrarium in particular, as it can be used both as a ground cover and as an eye-catcher between roots and stones.

Fittonia originally comes from the warm, humid rainforests of South America, where it grows under the dense canopy of trees. There it benefits from high humidity and indirect light. It also feels at home in the terrarium under precisely these conditions: a humidity of 70-90 % and temperatures of around 22-27 °C offer ideal conditions. Direct, strong light should be avoided as it can burn the sensitive leaves. Instead, moderate lighting is sufficient – optimal are 800-1,200 lumens per liter of floor area.

With its compact growth habit, the “Mini White” usually reaches a height of 5-10 cmThis makes it ideal for smaller terrariums, e.g. for jumping spiders or mantids. Due to its dense growth, it also offers retreat and hiding places for smaller terrarium animals. The substrate should be loose, slightly moist and rich in humus – however, waterlogging should be avoided.

The Fittonia “Mini White” not only scores with its decorative effect, but also with its ease of care. Regular spraying provides the necessary humidity, while a constant temperature supports growth. It looks particularly beautiful in combination with moss, ferns or smaller bromeliads.

With its delicate structure and light-colored leaf pattern, the Fittonia albivenis “Mini White” gives every terrarium a lively yet elegant appearance – a must for anyone who values a natural, harmonious habitat.
