Eresus spec. “Blue Sidi Ifni” – rare blue tube spider from Morocco

Eresus spec. “Blue Sidi Ifni” is a rare and strikingly colored tube spider. It comes from the Sidi Ifni region in Morocco. Its unique shimmering blue coloration makes it a real eye-catcher and collector’s item. It is considered a small sensation in the terrarium hobby.

Typical for tube spiders, it usually spends the day in its web. There it retreats into tubes that it makes in the substrate. It appears more frequently at dusk or at night. Its behavior is calm and not very aggressive. This makes it suitable for keepers with less experience in this group of spiders.

A terrarium measuring 20 × 20 × 20 cm is sufficient for keeping them. A thick layer of substrate of about 10 cm is important. A mixture of diggable soil and a little sand is ideal. Pieces of cork, moss or roots serve as cover and help the spider to build its tubes. Temperatures of 22-26 °C are ideal during the day. At night they may drop to 18-20 °C. A slightly damp corner is sufficient to achieve the necessary humidity of approx. 60-70 %.

Once a week Eresus spec. “Blue Sidi Ifni” Food. Crickets, small cockroaches or crickets are suitable. Uneaten food animals should be removed after a day to avoid stress.

This species is not suitable for keeping in groups. It lives a solitary life and does not tolerate conspecifics. Its magnificent appearance is best displayed in decorated terrariums with natural lighting. The metallic-blue exoskeleton looks particularly impressive when the light falls from the side.
