Between stone and sun: Eresus spec. “Aguert Tamanart”

Eresus spec. “Aguert Tamanart” comes from the warm and rocky regions around the Tamanart Valley in Morocco. Various Eresus populations can be found there, which differ slightly in color. The animals from this region show particularly strong colors and clear patterns. This makes them particularly popular with many enthusiasts.

Females have rich, warm colors and often appear more robustly built than the males. The carapace may be slightly lighter in color. The legs also sometimes show soft color nuances. Males are smaller, but their colors are much more contrasting. During the mating season, their colors become particularly intense, making them real eye-catchers.

Like all representatives of the genus, this local form also builds stable tube webs. The animals build their tubes in dry, slightly sandy soil, often protected by stones or roots. They like to sit at the entrance and patiently observe their surroundings. As a result, they are seen surprisingly often, although they are considered tube spiders.

A terrarium with a diggable substrate is recommended for keeping them. A mixture of forest humus and desert sand works well. Stones, pieces of cork or roots provide structure and protect the burrow. The species prefers a dry climate with a slightly damp retreat zone. Temperatures between 22 and 27 °C are ideal. Waterlogging should be avoided, but a small water bowl should not be missing.

Eresus spec. “Aguert Tamanart” is robust and calm when kept. Many animals sit visibly in the tube passage and react curiously to movements. This makes the species suitable for keepers who want to observe the behavior of tube spiders more closely. Their warm colors, origin and typical lifestyle make them a special animal for any collection.
