Cubaris spec. “Amber” – Stones for the terrarium

Cubaris spec. “Amber” impresses with its soft amber coloration, which gave it its name. Depending on the incidence of light, the shade can appear lighter or more intense – a warm, natural look that is particularly effective in planted or natural setups. This species is not only visually appealing, but also takes on the important role of “soil police” in the terrarium. It decomposes organic material such as leaves, wood debris and food scraps and thus actively contributes to the stability of the small ecosystem.

The posture shows Cubaris spec. “Amber” robust, provided their habitat is adapted to their natural needs. A structured substrate consisting of leaf humus, white rotten wood, moss and pieces of cork provides the animals with sufficient nutrients and places to retreat. This isopod species prefers high humidity coupled with good ventilation to prevent mold growth. A humidity gradient is particularly important: one area of the tank should always be slightly damp, while other zones remain drier so that the animals can choose for themselves.

The optimum keeping parameters are a temperature between 22 and 26 °C and moderate to high humidity. Light spraying two to three times a week is usually sufficient. The moss should never dry out completely, as it serves as an important moisture reservoir for the animals.

Cubaris spec. “Amber” is rather crepuscular and nocturnal, but with a little patience can also be observed exploring during the day. When bred under ideal conditions, it reproduces readily.
