Armadillidium vulgare “Yellow” – classic with color variation
Armadillidium vulgare “Yellow” is a particularly striking color form of the well-known classic. While the wild form appears rather gray, this variant shows a spotted bright, yellowish to golden colorationwhich immediately catches the eye and visibly enhances any terrarium.
This color form originated – just like many other variants of Armadillidium vulgare – through selection over several generations. The lightest animals were repeatedly propagated until a stable yellow line developed.
Depending on the line, the animals appear soft yellow, cream-colored or slightly goldenalthough individual animals can also show slight patterns. Especially in groups, this creates a very harmonious and at the same time lively overall picture.
Even if the color form is already stable, you can make further selections yourself. To do this, select the brightest and most intense animals and use them for breeding. This allows you to further improve your own line and increase the color intensity.
In cultivation remains Armadillidium vulgare “Yellow” just as uncomplicated as the wild form. The animals are robust, adaptable and forgiving of minor mistakes.
A classic setup with Forest humus, leaves and white rotten wood provides the ideal basis. Hiding places such as bark and moss should also be provided. Keep one side slightly moist, while other areas remain drier.
The species is also uncomplicated when it comes to feeding. It takes leaves, vegetables and isopod food and develops stably and reliably.
Due to their bright color, easy keeping and the great breeding potential this species is perfect for beginners, but also for owners who want to work specifically on color forms.
With Armadillidium vulgare “Yellow” you are bringing a real classic into your terrarium – only in a color variantthat immediately catches the eye and at the same time offers plenty of scope for your own breeding projects.
