Brief description:
Armadillidium spec. “Casteldaccia” impresses with its unusual color pattern. The ground color is a dark grey that extends to the antennae and legs. A yellow ochre-gold ochre shines out between the individual segment plates. This extraordinary coloration makes them a beauty. The proportion of yellow varies greatly and we are currently in the process of breeding a “high gold” variant. Perhaps one or two of you will also enjoy it? The body structure is massive and comparable to Armadillidium gestroi.
The conditions for keeping Armadillidium spec. “Casteldaccia” are also suitable for beginners and follow the same pattern as those for keeping woodlice. Forest humus and white rotten wood as a substrate, a moist moss corner and food leaves as a litter layer are the basic equipment. Of course, cuttlefish should not be missing and occasionally a treat to cover the protein balance and provide variety in the food supply. The animals come from Sicily, more precisely from Casteldaccia. Casteldaccia is located in the province of Palermo. The animals can be found there at altitudes of 450 meters and more. The loamy soil is mainly home to olive trees, which are very popular with Isopods. They live under the trees and mainly eat the leaf litter of the olive trees.
They have adapted to the dry summer months and can therefore be kept a little drier. An air humidity of 70% on average has proven to be suitable.
The animals reproduce as quickly as almost all woodlouse species and you can quickly enjoy breeding them.
